Ethical Corporation: Thoughts from Christiana Figueres and Darian McBain
Earlier this week 200+ leading business executives met in London at the world-renowned Responsible Business Awards. The Awards recognised the likes ABN AMRO, Kimberley Clark, AstraZeneca and Unilever for their innovative, impact-driven strategies.
There were two individual Awards – Lifetime Achievement Award and Business Leader of the Year – and ahead of the Awards ceremony we were able to talk with the two winners about their passion to deliver the transformation needed to meet the Goals ahead.
Lifetime Achievement Award – this year’s winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award is Christiana Figueres. “Her bold, steadfast and passionate commitment culminated in 195 countries signing the Climate Agreement in Paris in December 2015. This has laid a roadmap for countries and companies to follow to ensure we avoid the disastrous impacts of climate change,” stated the Judges. Christiana Figueres was unable to attend the Gala but provided a video acceptance speech. Click here to access Christiana’s video speech.
Business Leader of the year – Darian McBain, global director of sustainable development at Thai Union, is this year’s winner of the Business Leader Award. “With a clear effort to address issues in her own business, she has impacted wider industry for a plus public sector in an overall challenging industry,” outlined the Judges. Meet the finalists – The standard of this year’s entries was as good as we’ve ever seen. All finalists showcased great ambition and truly innovative ideas and strategies. In the build-up to the Awards ceremony we published a 59-page report that provides an overview of the finalists’ projects. Click here to access the report.
As well as the Responsible Business Awards, this week saw our Responsible Supply Chain and Sustainability Reporting and Communications Summits take place in London. It’s been a busy week for the team but one we’ve thoroughly enjoyed, meeting and hearing from those that are delivering strategies that will move us to a more sustainable and responsible future. In the coming weeks we’ll be publishing key takeaways, videos and reports from the events – please do keep an eye out.
